Will I see the same doctor every time I visit?

๐ฆท Treatments & Procedures
How often should I get a dental check-up?
+
For most adults, a check-up and professional cleaning every 6 months is recommended. If you have gum disease, a history of cavities, or other ongoing dental concerns, your dentist may recommend more frequent visits.
Is a root canal treatment painful?
+
Root canal treatment is performed under local anaesthesia, so the procedure itself should be comfortable. Most patients find that the pain they had before the root canal โ from the infected tooth โ is far worse than the treatment. After the procedure, some mild soreness for a day or two is normal and manageable with over-the-counter pain relief.
How long does teeth whitening last?
+
The results of professional teeth whitening typically last between 6 months and 2 years, depending on diet, habits (such as tea, coffee, or smoking), and oral hygiene. Avoiding staining foods and beverages and maintaining good oral hygiene helps maintain the results for longer.
How long does orthodontic treatment (braces) take?
+
The duration depends on the severity of the misalignment and the type of treatment. On average, fixed braces take 12โ24 months. Clear aligners may take 6โ18 months for suitable cases. Your orthodontist will give you a personalised treatment timeline at your first consultation.
What is the difference between a crown and a veneer?
+
A veneer covers only the front surface of a tooth and is primarily used for cosmetic improvement. A crown covers the entire tooth and is used when a tooth is significantly damaged, weakened, or after a root canal. Your dentist will recommend the right option based on the condition of your tooth.
Are dental implants suitable for everyone?
+
Most adults with good general health and adequate jawbone are suitable candidates for dental implants. Conditions such as uncontrolled diabetes, active gum disease, or insufficient bone density may need to be addressed first. A thorough assessment including an OPG X-ray is done before recommending implants.
How long do dental implants last?
+
With good oral hygiene and regular dental check-ups, dental implants can last many years โ often for the long term. The implant crown (the visible part) may need replacement after 10โ15 years depending on wear. The implant itself, when well maintained, can last considerably longer.

๐ชฅ Oral Health & Home Care
How should I brush my teeth correctly?
+
Use a soft-bristled toothbrush and fluoride toothpaste. Hold the brush at a 45-degree angle to your gums and use gentle circular motions โ not a back-and-forth scrubbing motion, which can damage enamel and gums. Brush for at least 2 minutes, twice a day โ once in the morning and once before bed.
Is flossing really necessary if I brush well?
+
Yes. A toothbrush cannot reach between teeth, where a significant amount of plaque and food debris accumulates. Flossing once a day removes this buildup and is one of the most effective ways to prevent gum disease and cavities between teeth. Interdental brushes are a good alternative if flossing is difficult.
What causes bad breath and how can I prevent it?
+
The most common causes are poor oral hygiene, food debris on the tongue, gum disease, dry mouth, and certain foods. Brushing twice daily, cleaning your tongue, flossing, staying hydrated, and regular dental check-ups all help. Persistent bad breath despite good hygiene may indicate an underlying dental or medical condition worth discussing with your dentist.
At what age should my child start seeing a dentist?
+
As soon as the first tooth appears, or by the child’s first birthday โ whichever comes first. Early visits help identify any developmental concerns, get children comfortable with dental visits, and establish good habits from the start. We make first visits gentle and positive for young patients.
Can diet affect my dental health?
+
Significantly. Sugary and acidic foods and beverages are the primary contributors to tooth decay and enamel erosion. Frequent snacking keeps acid levels in the mouth elevated for longer. Drinking water, limiting sugary drinks, eating a balanced diet, and not grazing between meals all protect your teeth alongside good brushing habits.
